Summary:  The Per Diem Dental On-Call Hospitalist Faculty Teaching Position for the Dental Residency Program was established to supervise residents while they are managing ED Consults, Floor Consults and Cardiac Consults.  Dentist is immediately responsible to the Program Director, Chair of the Department of Dentistry, and the Vice-President of Academic Affairs.  Dentist’s activities will be evaluated bi-annually by the Program Director and the Chair of the Department of Dentistry (OPPE/FPPE).

Qualifications

 

  1. DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental program, pass the written National Board Dental Examination, and pass a state or regional clinical examination. 
  2. Minimum of five or more years of experience in an Academic Dental Program.
  3. Knowledge of The Commission on Dental Accreditation accredits dental, advanced dental and allied dental education programs.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  5. Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
  6. Strong knowledge of dental emergency management, hospital consultations, and interdisciplinary care (including cardiac consult management
  7. Excellent communication and leadership skills
  8. Ability to collaborate effectively with Oral Surgery on-call attendings, emergency department staff and other medical specialists

Responsibilities

 

  1. Assist the Program Director in organizing and supervising the Dental Resident training in the management and triage of cardiac consults, ED consults and floor consults. The Dental Hospitalist will supervise the dental residents in managing uncomplicated abscesses, avulsions, trauma to the teeth, cardiac clearances and flor consults.  In complicated cases or in cases where patient treatment goes beyond the scope of general dentistry, patient care shall be referred over to the on-call OMFS. Supervision may be either direct or indirect depending on the capabilities of the resident.  In any case, the Dental Hospitalist shall be the attending of record and sign off on any consults managed by the dental residents.
  2. Assist the Program Director to coordinate the didaction portion of the program.
  3. Assist the Program Director to coordinate written evaluations of the residents’ performance.
  4. Assist the Program Director with compliance of Commission on Dental Accreditation standards or accreditation.
  5. Time Sheets:  Dentist shall timely and accurately complete and submit bi-weekly time records.  During the term of employment, the form of record keeping may be paper or electronic, as Employer requires and as Employer may modify from time to time.  The current form is attached hereto as Schedule B.

Starting Minimum Rate

$69.64 Hourly Rate
